On Thursday, May 14, second graders at Kernan Elementary welcomed Whitney from the Cornell Cooperative Extension for an engaging, hands-on lesson all about sustainability! Whitney taught students the importance of reducing waste and reusing materials to help protect our environment. Students also explored the benefits of composting and learned how everyday food scraps can be turned into nutrient-rich soil. To top it off, each student created their very own mini compost to take home and continue the learning with their families. It was a fun and interactive experience that inspired our young learners to become environmental stewards in their own communities!
